A Fairbury man is facing charges after law enforcement officials say he stole and crashed a car.
It happened at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, near 575 Avenue and PWF Road. Ten minutes earlier the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stolen vehicle from the Diller area.
The white, 2002 Chevy pickup was involved in a rollover accident. Emergency crews responded and they searched around the accident scene to locate anyone involved.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, a short time later, 25-year-old Jesse C. Blobaum of rural Fairbury was found. He was taken to the Jefferson Community Health Center with minor injuries.
Deputies say the pickup was west bound on PWF Road when the it entered the south ditch. They say the driver over corrected and the vehicle started to slide on the road surface. That's when the vehicle entered the north ditch sideways and when it came to the bottom of the ditch it started to roll. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels facing east.
Speed and alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash, restraints were not in use and air bags did not deploy. The vehicle is a total loss.
Blobaum was cited for driving under the influence and felony theft by unlawful taking. His injuries are considered non-life threatening.
