A York man whose car was stolen out of his parent's Lincoln driveway is now dealing with an even bigger headache.
Lincoln Police believe a woman stole a car from a Lincoln driveway on December 23rd as the owner was loading Christmas gifts into his car.
LPD Officer Shane Winterbauer says, "In the process of coming from his parents house and loading different gifts into the vehicle, he obviously went back inside and that's when the vehicle was stolen."
Police found the car a week later, but it was missing the gifts and the victim's checkbook. Over the next 3 weeks, Police say forged checks were used 19 times around the city. "There's been eight different forged checks to Valentino's restaurants here in Lincoln, two at DaVinci's, two at Lazlo's, one at Payless Shoes, two at Fast Mart and one at Red Robin as well," said Winterbauer.
The forged checks total nearly $900. These surveillance photos are from the Fast Mart at 33rd and A Streets. They're the only pictures Police have of the crimes. But a description from an employee at Payless Shoes might just crack the case. "The employee described her as being a white female, early 20's with long, dark, brown hair. She also said that the female was wearing trendy clothes. She also said the female possibly had a European accent," said Winterbauer.
It took the victim nearly a month to realize his checkbook was missing. By that time, all the checks had been written. A good reminder to keep a constant eye on your money.
"Anytime you have any kind of checking account, it's probably a good idea to keep track of your statements, whether you call the bank or go online and check your account history," said Winterbauer.
