Student Finds Bullet Casing at School

Lincoln, Neb. Parents were notified Friday about a situation at Arnold Elementary where a student found a bullet casing during a school assembly.

The boy found it on Tuesday morning. When his mother, Jessica Wilson found out Wednesday, she immediately called the school.

Wilson says she left a message with the school's secretary, but that Principal J.J. Wilkins never got the memo. Wilkins says he just found out about the situation Friday and as soon as he did, he immediately started investigating.

However, since the boy no longer has the casing and can't show it to school staff Wilkins says they have no proof and it makes it tough for the investigation.

"The item in question, the item reportedly found we have not seen and the item found has not been clearly identified. Obviously when faced with a situation like this we always take safety, student security very very seriously and we always investigate these matters fully," Wilkins said.

Wilson thinks the school should have taken the initial call seriously.

Wilkins says the school will continue to work with the Director of Security with LPS on the matter.
