Students are Ready to Walk in 5th Annual Prescott Walkathon

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Students and staff at Prescott Elementary along with several community members will take part in the 5th Annual Prescott Walkathon.

The walk will take place Friday, May 9 at Prescott Park. The opening ceremony starts at 9:15 a.m. Students in Kindergarten will be the first group to walk. Other grades will then walk throughout the rest of the day.

Principal RuthAnn Wylie says each year the school raises about $10,000 and it comes from students fundraising and other community sponsors.

The money is used to keep adding and building the Prescott park which includes play and learning areas for the kids.

The park has an outdoor classroom which Wylie says allows the students to be healthy and learn about the outdoors. Wylie adds that a new addition to the classroom is a fossil pit.

It also includes many raised beds which allowed the students to plant and harvest.
