Murdered Raymond, Nebraska man Tom Schlender was laid to rest at Oak Creek Cemetery in Raymond Thursday afternoon.
Last week, he was gunned down while driving through northern Mississippi on his way to Florida to pick up a grandchild.
Schlender, who was an Air Force veteran, received full military honors, including the playing of Taps.
On a hot and sunny afternoon, mourners hugged each other and shed tears as they remembered a well-respected and loving father and grandfather who was married for 50 years, had three daughters and several grandchildren, whom he adored.
Meanwhile police down in Mississippi have arrested 28-year-old James D. Willie. He will be charged with two counts of capital murder in the shootings. Willie's being held at the Tunica County jail in north Mississippi.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain says Willie was not posing as a police officer in the shootings as authorities previously suspected.
Strain says authorities were able to match ballistics from the shootings to a 9mm Ruger found in Willie's possession when he was arrested.
Mississippi law enforcement agencies had warned motorists that someone may be posing as an officer because the shooting victims had no obvious reason to be stopped on the interstate where they were found.
