A Lincoln teen is busted trying to sell prescription drugs at his high school.
Now administrators say prescription drug abuse is a growing problem.
18 year old Derek Pond was arrested at 7:30 Monday morning after the security director at Northeast High School heard he'd been trying to sell drugs.
When police searched Pond's backpack, they found a bottle of hydrocodone with his name on it.
School administrators say they try to identify students struggling with substance abuse through the SCIP program, or School Community Intervention Prevention.
Teachers can refer students for the program, then the SCIP team leader will gather information to make a profile.
If they feel there's an issue to address, parents will be notified and connected with resources to help.
Administrators say they see around 100 SCIP referrals each year at Northeast out of around 1400 students.
They're not all drug related - other issues might include mental health problems or issues at home.
LPS has a zero tolerance drug policy.
Pond now faces charges of possession with intent to deliver.
