A family is giving thanks this Christmas season after a house fire nearly gutted their home early this morning.

Lincoln Fire crews respond to this home at 336 South 30th Street just after 2:30 this morning.

Fire investigators say the blaze started in the attic because of a wiring issue.

Dick Tracy, the owner of the house, says his 14-year-old son helped save the day.

Tracy said, "my boy Trevor went and woke up my wife and his two sisters. He got them out of the house and he told me he took the fire extinguisher and put out the fire on the floor on the back porch and he said dad, I put the fire out on the floor and I looked up and the ceiling was on fire."

Tracy was working the overnight shift plowing snow for the city when the fire broke out.

There were only a few Christmas presents under the tree at the time.

Tracy says they may not have been harmed.

Damage to the home is estimated at 80-thousand dollars.
