Three Iconic Nebraska Sporting Venues Turned into Sand Castles

LINCOLN, Neb.-- Sixty tons of sand are being used to recreate three iconic Nebraska sporting venues inside Lincoln's Gateway Mall: Memorial Stadium, Haymarket Park and Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Ryan Bouc, the mall's marketing director, said it's all part of a promotional event they have going on through August.

Visitors to the mall, starting June 6, can take part in a "selfie" contest by taking a photo in front of the stadiums. Then, contestants can post the photos to the mall's Facebook page, and rally their friends to earn the most like.

The best photos will get a prize, and four winners will be chosen each week of the various competitions.

The three prizes and the dates to submit the photos are as follows:
- June 6 through July 3 winners get skybox tickets to a Lincoln Saltdogs game
- July 4 through July 31 winners get a pair of Katy Perry concert tickets
- Aug. 1 through Aug 28 winners get a pair of Husker football tickets

The group creating the castles is called Sanding Ovations, based out of Treasure Island, Florida.

They said the sculptures should be finished by Friday, June 6. They said they've been working on them for about 10-to-12 hours for a week, including having to bring all the sand in by hand.
