Several Grand Island homes were evacuated Friday afternoon after a tractor caused a natural gas leak.
The accident happened in northern GI south of the Law Enforcement Training Center on Airport Road. A man mowing the ditch around a cornfield mowed into a natural gas pipe.
But neighbors say it wasn't the first thing that had been hit that day.
"It was a terrible racket, so I went out and looked, well, I didn't see what it was, but he kept on going. Evidently he went and got a different mower because he had mowed off the telephone box, a lot of wires and everything," says Beth Bonczynski, who lives across the road from the gas pipe.
Bonczynski says her family called 911 after they heard gas leaking.
Crews from Northwestern Energy say there was gas in the pipe, but they were able to cap it. They were investigating, but believed the line did not service any homes.
Neighbors were allowed to return home not long after the accident.
