According to the Otoe County Attorney, the driver of the propane truck has died following a collision with a Union Pacific train.

The accident happened on County Road C around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. The driver of the propane truck has been identified as 51-year-old John P. Bruns, of Elmwood. At the time of the crash, authorities say Bruns was operating a propane truck belonging to Drake Propane Service of Avoca. Bruns was ejected from his vehicle and died immediately at the scene.

Arrangements have been made for an autopsy and for toxicology tests to be performed, although there were no apparent signs that alcohol played any role in the collision.

Union Pacific officials say no railroad employees were hurt.

Union Pacific said the crossing has non-active warning devices and yield signs. It is located in a rural area.
