Two men get recognition for their role in pulling children to safety after a deadly crash near Blue Hill.

Senator Mike Johanns spoke in Washington D.C. on the senate floor Wednesday, calling attention to Ron Meyer and Philip Peter.

Peter and Meyer pulled children to safety after a Blue Hill Community District school bus and a semi truck collided near County Road "R" and 1800 Road.

Four people died and several others were injured in the collision, but Johanns says it could have been much worse, if not for the men's heroics and bravery.

"No recognition can adequately convey the gratitude felt by the families of the 5 children, whom they saved from this burning bus, but Mr. President I stand before you today on behalf of the Blue Hill community and all of my fellow Nebraskans and offer my deepest appreciation to Ron Meyer and Phil Peter. May God Bless them and God Bless all those affected by this terrible crash," said Senator Johanns.
