Police say a 9-year-old boy was the victim in a fatal accident in Kearney.
At approximately 5:18 p.m. Monday, the Kearney Police Department, Good Samaritan Hospital EMS, and the Kearney Fire Department were called to the intersection of 17th Street and 6th Avenue for a two vehicle collision.
Police say Rebecca Konate, of Kearney, was traveling southbound on 6th Street with 9-year-old Jackson Wallace when she and Jayme Bells, traveling east on 17th, collided in the intersection.
There are no traffic control devices at the intersection, but Kearney Police say drivers are expected to yield at the intersection.
Kearney Police report Wallace died as a result of his injuries. He was sitting in the front, passenger seat of Konate's vehicle. He was wearing a seat belt. Police tell 10/11 that Konate was Wallace's babysitter.
Konate was also taken to the hospital for injuries.
No arrests or citations have been made yet, but police are investigating and expect charges to be made in the coming days.
Motorists were forced to find alternate routes around the scene as police closed the road for four or five hours to conduct their investigation.
