Daniel Lee Kreis
Lincoln Police are investigating a hit and run accident. A pedestrian was hit and killed near 14th and Cornhusker.
Authorities say around 9:30 Sunday night, police were called to the intersection for a car versus pedestrian accident. Moments later, police were called again saying the SUV involved had left the scene.
According to Sergeant Mayde McGuire, Daniel Lee Kreis was crossing Cornhusker Hwy on the west side of 14th Street. Two vehicles were traveling eastbound. As Kreis crossed the center divider, the vehicle in the inside lane stopped. Kreis walked in front of the SUV in the outside lane and was hit.
Witnesses were preforming CPR on Kreis when emergency crews arrived. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:50 p.m.
Mcguire said the driver got out and told witnesses she needed to leave to get her child.
The driver, 46-year-old Kelly Hall of Lincoln was contacted later and arrested for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and felony DUI.
Police say Hall showed signs of alcohol impairment. Her preliminary breath test showed an alcohol level of .094.
Lincoln Police had trouble identifying Kreis until early Monday morning. They say he is a Lincoln transient.
Police at the scene said the details for this case are very similar to another recent fatal hit and run, car versus pedestrian accident less than a block away.
