A Papillion couple has been cited with contributing to the delinquency of a child in connection with a fatal crash involving teen.

According to police, 18-year-old Jon Zadina consumed alcohol at the home of 43-year-old David and 42-year-old Donna Newell just before being killed in a high-speed, one-vehicle crash on September 29th.

Police say Zadina lost control of his car at East Cary Street and Engberg Road just before 12:30 a.m. and slammed into a tree, nearly wrapping around it. The accident occurred less than three blocks from the Newell home.

Police believe a dozen or more minors were attending a gathering at the Newells' home where alcohol was consumed. The Newells were home at the time.

Police have said the investigation will continue in an effort to determine the source of alcohol and how it was procured. Other suspects are being sought for questioning and additional charges may be considered.

Zadina’s mother says her son would not have wanted this, it was his choice to drink. She doesn't know the whole story, but appreciates police looking into it.

Caroline Zadina went on to say that her children and the Newell children are friends. David and Donna Newell are scheduled to appear in Sarpy County court on November 21st.

Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a misdemeanor.
