"I'll have some better service and it'll be faster." -Verizon Customer Nethanyel Colgan
Many people in Grand Island had a nice surprise waiting for them on their cell phones and other devices.
The surprise was a switch from 3G to 4G LTE services for Verizon customers.
Which means on Thursday many people were ten times faster than they were on Wednesday.
At the Verizon Wireless store in Grand Island Nethanyel Colgan is one of the latest customers to experience 4G service.
"I'll have some better service and it'll be faster," said Verizon Customer Nethanyel Colgan.
He was also part of a celebration Wednesday morning where the store gave away two 4G capable smartphones.
"By the time we opened we had thirty customers waiting to be able to win that phone," commented Verizon Retail Sales Manager Pam Sundermeier.
Colgan says he'll use the new phone to download music with his new 4g service, but the service actually works on more than your phone.
"We launched 4G, and what that is is high speed internet for your phones, tablet devices, and home internet service," said Sundermeier.
Kearney and Hastings will the experience 4G network before the end of the year.
Some phones are not capable of 4G though, which means those phones and devices will stay at 3G speeds, and devices will switch to the higher speed on its own if it is 4G capable.
