Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry was among the thousands of people who paid tribute to veterans near Omaha Beach, Friday, commemorating the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, when allied forces liberated France from the Nazis during World War II. President Barack Obama and other world leaders were among those who spoke at the ceremony.
Fortenberry talked to 10/11 News about the rememberence and said he considered it a tremendous honor to be there.
“The whole ceremony was grace-filled and dignified and the veterans were so happy to be there and people wanted to hear their story,” Fortenberry said.
Fortenberry’s grandfather, Luther Fortenberry, died in battle while fighting for the Allies in France in 1944.
