For Navy Veteran Dan Petersen adjusting to life back in the United States following the Vietnam War wasn't easy, but after suppressing his anger he decided to dedicate his time and efforts to the Nebraska VFW.

He now fights for the rights of veterans everywhere, especially new veterans who are returning from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and are having some of the same problems he had nearly 40 years ago.

"I didn't want to address my issues when I came back, so I feel for them, I know where they're coming from. Talk to someone who's been there and done that. Don't talk to someone who thinks they know," said Dan Petersen.

He encourages new veterans to gain guidance by registering with Veteran Affairs. An organization that can help veterans get the mental and physical help they need.
