We see it all the time. New bicycles or other outdoor gear next to or under the Christmas tree. But, it's not often we actually get to test them out during these cold winter months. With temperatures outside now is certainly better than ever.
The Knolls Country Club today had 20 people teeing off. Some of those new members who wouldn't otherwise have been able to play until warmer weather prevails. And it wasn't just the case there.
Josh Nunnally went to hit with his dad and brother on Friday.
"I had looked at the forecast and saw that it was supposed to be pretty nice weather so I was kinda hoping it would turn out to be nice weather," he said.
It was a chance to bring out the new tees he got for Christmas.
And the benefits are not just for the golfers. The more people tee off, the better it is for business. Golfers at The Knolls pay for their membership and can play unlimited rounds for that cost. So, nice, warm days when they might expect snow to keep them inside helps give them more bang for their buck. But the country club also makes additional money from those who come to play.
"Any kind of traffic that's over and above what we do there is always a chance they come in afterwards and have some drinks or snacks in the lounge," said Golf Pro Scott Carlson.
So you can imagine at a course where people pay to play- warm days give an added boost to that money.
At The Knolls- it is not a boost they can count on.
"Even though we have some better ones in the last ten or fifteen years, we don't count on it," said Carlson.
For Nunnally it is a day he was excited to see.
"Besides this year and I think it was maybe two years ago I've never been able to come out this time of year and play golf," he said.
The weather should also be nice Saturday. Carlson expects members will be on the course again.
