Waverly Woman Cited for Shooting Barking Dog

Deputies have cited a woman for accidentally shooting a small dog with a pellet gun because it was barking too much.

Sheriff Terry Wagner said the owner of a 7 month old Morkie reported the shooting yesterday. According to Wagner 37 year old Jennifer Wylder was upset with the small dog because it wouldn't stop barking.

Wagner said Wylder got her husband's pellet gun and wanted to scare the dog to stop the barking. She had never fired the gun before and when she shot at a ceramic pot near the dog she missed and hit the animal.

The dog was taken to the vet who found a BB lodged in it's chest. It will need surgery but should recover.

Wylder was cited for misdemeanor animal cruelty because the injury was not intentional.
