An-off-duty Scottsbluff Police Officer observed a subject riding a similar bicycle near the police department in the early evening hours. Although the officer lost sight of the suspect a search of the area located a blue and white bicycle matching that observed in the surveillance video in the front yard of 1702 3rd Avenue in Scottsbluff.

Officers investigating the location of this bicycle identified Curtis Soester and when statements that he provided officers were found to be untrue additional investigation occurred. Officers identified subjects whom Soester claimed to have been with at the time of the crime and additional information was collected.

Statements from some of these subjects led to the arrest of Soester for one count of Robbery. While being transported to the jail Soester provided a Scottsbluff Police Officer with the driver’s license of the victim in this case. It appeared to have been concealed on his person during his arrest.

Scottsbluff Police are searching for a suspect after a resident of the Western Nebraska Veterans Home had his wallet stolen.

Officers say they were called to the Western Nebraska Veterans Home around 11:10 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, resident David Bixler told police he was outside the home when a man forcibly took his wallet and fled. Bixler told police he chased the suspect for a short time.

Officers say they weren’t able to find the suspect after a search of the area with assistance from the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol.

The victim described the suspect as a white male approximately 5’8” in height and possibly wearing a ski mask with all dark clothing.

This crime was captured on surveillance video on the campus of the veterans home. In the images from the surveillance video the male is observed arriving into the area on bicycle. The male appears to be wearing a dark colored (possibly black) hooded coat with the word “FILA” across the front, a dark blue baseball style cap, blue jeans and light colored (possibly white) tennis style shoes.
