A quiet neighborhood just off a golf course is not immune to crime. In fact, Lincoln Police are searching for suspect in a string of burglaries that happened overnight Wednesday in the Wilderness Ridge Neighborhood.
"In two of the incidents, the suspect or suspects actually opened numerous drawers and cabinets inside the home while the residents slept," Officer Katie Flood said.
It can be a terrifying thought, someone breaking into your house, but police say in this case, force was not used. At two the homes, the burglars got inside through and unlocked door and at the third, they just got lucky.
Police say the suspect got inside the garage, into an unlocked car and found a key to the house.
"This is similar to other thefts we have seen in residential neighborhoods in recent weeks. It is too soon to say if they are all related, but it is a good time to take precautionary measures in your own home," Flood said.
A simple twist of the wrist will protect you and your family.
"Before going to bed, bring all your valuables from vehicles inside, even if that vehicle is parked inside, that does include keys to the home. Also check any entry points to your house or garage and make sure those are secured," Flood said.
According to police, small items like wallets, purses, cameras and change were taken.
Police are looking for leads in this case, call Lincoln Crimestoppers with any information.
