Fairbury City Firefighters have contained a grass fire that was threatening the Southeast Nebraska town.
Crews say a fire originated southwest of town, near Crystal Springs on Fredricks Road. Due to the wind the fire itself was pushed toward Fairbury.
It is reported that the wooded area along the river, wild life refuge and walking trail are all presently involved. The firefighters are hoping to use the river to their advantage in fighting the fire as it spreads toward Fairbury.
It is expected that this fire will be burning for quite a while as the trees along the walking trails have caught on fire.
The wind has proven a huge problem for the firefighters.
Meanwhile Jefferson County firefighters have battled three other fires today and were just called to a scene north of Highway 136 near Daykin for another fire at the gun range.
