Weather permitting, construction work is scheduled to begin October 21 on the US‑34 Platte River Bridge east of Grand Island, according to the Nebraska Department of Roads.
Garcia-Chicoine Enterprises, Inc. of Milford, Nebraska has the $74,973 contract for the bridge deck repair work.
During construction, the bridge will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a traffic signal. Speed limits throughout the work zone will also be reduced.
Motorists can expect delays and are encouraged to take an alternative route. The work is anticipated to take up to four weeks to complete.
The Department of Roads’ manager for this project is Eric Klein of Grand Island.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through construction zones.
