'Living Well' is what it's all about. That's the message of upcoming sessions offered by the Grand Island YWCA. The 6-week program starts October 9th and offers ways to better manage how you feel on a daily basis.

The program is sponsored by Midland Area Agency on Aging and is geared for people living with chronic diseases.

Program specialist Tammy Musgrave says these sessions are crucial for those who don't have other resources.

"When they are diagnosed with a chronic disease, it is a life changing event. So a lot of them get depressed. A lot of them have nowhere to turn to or know what to do," said Musgrave.

She says the program provides individuals with tools to help them start living a better and healthier life.

"They need to learn how to self-manage. There are things they can do for themselves. It's not going to change, the disease isn't going away. By taking care of yourself, you actually may start feeling better," said Musgrave.

As a bonus, the program is completely free for those who sign-up. Musgrave says 'word of mouth' is the best indicator of the program's success. She said, "We've had a lot of people take the class and then call their friends up and say you really need to take this class"

The number of open spots in the program is limited. Organizers say the 'Living Well' sessions are also great for individuals who care for someone with chronic conditions.
