Kearney, NE 1,500 wrestlers under the age of 18 and their families converged on Kearney this weekend for the 15th annual Midwest Classic Nationals Wrestling Tournament.

The tournament is put on every year by the University of Nebraska at Kearney's wrestling team.

It brings in competitors from all around the Midwest. There were people from 12 different states competing this year.

UNK said without the funds and recruiting this tournament makes possible their program would collapse.

It goes towards scholarships, toward travel, towards helping pay for coaches and again it's just something that we cannot survive, we couldn't do as well as could nationally at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and competing on that NCAA level if we didn't do stuff like this to, again, sustain ourselves and help bring in the high caliber recruits that we need to have a program with this much success," said Dalton Jensen, the UNK Assistant Wrestling Coach.
