The 2012 Nebraska State Fair ended with a slight glitch when a young woman was hurt on a midway ride Monday afternoon.
Fair officials say that a decorative panel on the “Rock & Roll” ride fell off, hitting the young woman on the back of the head. Emergency crews took her to the hospital to treat her for cuts to the head.
Fair officials say this is an isolated incident and that rides at the State Fair are safe.
“All of these rides were inspected prior to opening up. This I think was just a fluke. Again, it's not critical, it's not germane to the ride, it's not part of the structure of the ride. It was simply a decorative panel that came loose,” says Joseph McDermott, Executive Director of the Nebraska State Fair.
Belle City Amusements, which own the midway rides, told 10/11 News that the incident is unprecedented with their company, and that they are working with investigators to determine the cause of the accident.
