The State Republican Party says it wants to see more transparency when it comes to voting for those running for state legislature. That's why they say they're pushing to change what you see behind a candidate's name.
During their state convention, Republicans in Grand Island opted to push forward with an effort to require those running for office in the Unicameral to openly declare their political affiliation and place that information on ballots.
Members of the Unicameral are selected in nonpartisan elections with the top two candidates moving on to the general election. The system does not rely on separate primaries to choose Republican, Democratic, and other partisan contenders for a seat.
