Mid Stewart is the Norfolk equivalent to the Maytag repairman. She is the epitome of dependability.

The Norfolk native started working at then General Wholesale on August 30, 1942...yes, that's three years before the end of World War II. Much has changed in the past 67 years, including the name of her employer, but one thing has stayed the same, Mid continues to pound away on her Remington typewriter.

.In a world dominated by computers, Mid still gets her job as accounting supervisor done with a manual typewriter. She lost her typewriter in a company fire in 1968. So she brought her current typewriter in from home 41 years ago.

And when Y2K hit in 2000, Mid's computer-using office mates kidded with her, Mid says, "They put a sign on it that says I was the only one in the office that was Y2K compliant."

Mid has been on the job 67 years, but if you're wondering just how old she is, well, it's best not to ask, "No, I do not talk about the year I was born. People try to get me to do that but so far I just say I was born and that's it."

It's important to note that Mid is just dropping in for a few hours a day, she works 55 hours a week. This lady doesn't know what it means to slow down, "People say why don't you retire and I say what would I do go home and look out the window?"

Mid has been such an inspiration to her co-workers throughout the years a new learning center was recently opened and named in honor of her.

The current CFO Duane Seversen has worked for Affiliated Foods for 17 years, "It seems like a fair amount of time but if you put a pencil to it but I've got to work 50 more years just to catch up with her that's when you really realized what kind of accomplishment it is."

Mid says even though she's just 3 years away from hitting the 70 year mark with Affiliated, she's not all that concerned with reaching the milestone...she just enjoys taking life one day at a time.
