Angie Lewis is a shining example of what can happen when a person blends a business degree with a good, solid dose of imagination.
Arriving in Lincoln to start her business...she wasn't an artist.
Just an adventurous person ready to tap into an untapped market.
The result, one trendy night out on the town.
The Corky Canvas is what happens when you combine the cork from a wine bottle with the canvas of a soon to be one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Lewis is the entrepreneur behind this unique concept that allows aspiring artists to follow the step-by-step instructions to recreate the featured painting of the night.
She had a feeling The Corky Canvas would thrive in the Capital City, "I knew that Lincoln really needed something like this, something fun, something different to do on a date night, on a girls night out so in my mind, I thought it was going to be very successful."
Angie says it all gets started on the Internet, "You go to our website, corkycanvas.com and click on our calendar tab. The calendar will show you what paintings we're doing each night so you can look at the calendar and say, 'Ok, Friday looks like a great painting.' So you just get your friends together and you book online."
Angie says, The Corky Canvas is not just for the ladies, "We encourage date nights, we'll have nights where we do two paintings where they'll go on the wall side by side."
Things have gone so well in Lincoln this past year, that Angie is planning on opening a Corky Canvas store in Omaha by the end of the year.
She says the Corky Canvas in Lincoln is open 3 to 4 nights a week and in addition to that, the store is also available for private parties throughout the year.
