The Reebok Cross fit games are the world's premier test to find the fittest person on earth and Lincoln's Phil Kniep is training to become that person. This former Cornhusker football player and current Lincoln fireman currently ranks # 9 in the world. But he's doing everything he can to make it to number one.
Phil pushes his body to the limit...everyday, every workout, every rep...all in hopes of achieving his dream of becoming the fittest man on earth, "It's gonna take a lot of hard work between now and it's just gonna take a lot of guts and determination essentially."
Phil's mom, Penny Stephens, says Phil's been a goal setter all of his life, "His work ethics have just been exceptional. He's very motivating, he's encouraging for everyone else around him his family and his friends."
Phil's relentless drive took him from Belleville, Kansas to Lincoln, "I got recruited to walk on at Nebraska." He was a member of the NU football team from 2001 to 2004, "It definitely gave me a background in power lifting and Olympic lifting which is what I really enjoy. I'm a super competitive person and that prepared me for the rigors of what CrossFit entails."
Phil says there are 10 different fitness domains involved in the cross philosophy and each of the domains challenges the competitors physically and mentally, "I get into them just to make myself a better person because cross fit is very rigorous and every single day you have to dig deep within yourself to even finish workouts sometimes."
After the regional competition, Phil was ranked # 9 in the world, but, "My goal is to be number one by the end of July!"
The Reebok CrossFit Games will take place at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on July 29-31.
