The journey began in July 4th of 1976 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Ron and Marilyn Eberspacher came up with to visit every state in America and take a picture of Marilyn in front of all 50 state capitals.
In August, the Eberspachers set sail on an Alaskan cruise and their dream became a reality.
Ron and Marilyn love to travel and they say exploring the U.S. has been one of the highlights of their 53 years of marriage.
It was way back in 1976 and Ron had just taken a picture of Marilyn in front of the Wyoming state capital, "I was thinking after we got home, I had that picture and I thought, 'Let's go to every capital and take a picture.'".
The mission was underway. Marilyn says, "I really did think, will we ever get that done? But we did, we feel blessed that we were able to."
These numbers help put Ron and Marilyn's accomplishment into perspective, over the past 35 years, they used 12 different cars to go on 20 different trips to travel almost 50,000 miles. And that's not counting the air miles to Alaska and Hawaii. Ron says, "It was right around 60,000 thousand miles to buy 50 cups!"
The Eberspachers made it a point to bring home a coffee cup from every state. Ron admits, "Now that it's over, I don't know what we're going to do...I kinda miss it." Marilyn agrees, "I think it's a neat experience and it's something a lot of people would enjoy if they'd just do."
