The Lincoln Saltdogs took two out of three at home against Wichita, beating the Wingnuts 7-3 Wednesday at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 44-37 on the season, 15-18 in the second half.
The Saltdogs put together two-run innings three different times against Wichita starter Kevin Angelle (0-1). After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Lincoln took the lead for good in the second inning on a two-run home run by Brandon Jones. In the third inning, Juan Camacho came up with a key two-out, two-run single to put the ’Dogs ahead 4-1.
The Wingnuts added a run in the fourth inning, but Lincoln’s Juan Richardson answered in the fifth with a two-run homer to give the Saltdogs a 6-2 lead. Wichita scored once more in the sixth inning, but Juan Camacho finished off the scoring with a solo home run for Lincoln in the bottom of the eighth.
Lincoln starter Chris Cullen (4-4) scattered ten hits over six innings, allowing three runs and striking out three. Cullen pitched himself out of multiple jams in the game, stranding seven Wichita runners in the process. Saltdogs relievers Tycen PoVey, Adam Daniels and Chris Thompson each threw a scoreless inning of relief to close out the ballgame, combining for five strikeouts in the process.
Richardson had another big night for Lincoln, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. In the three-game series, Richardson went 7-for-9 with three home runs, five RBI, six runs scored and three walks. Camacho ended the night 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Jones ended up 2-for-4 with two RBI.
After an off-day on Thursday, Lincoln heads to St. Paul on Friday to open a three-game series. The Saltdogs’ starting pitcher has not been announced.
