2009-2010 Girls Class A U.S. Cellular Cup Points
The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) will present Omaha Marian High School with the 2009-2010 U.S. Cellular Cup on Friday, August 20. Omaha Marian will be honored for the school’s performance during last year’s NSAA championship events at an all-school assembly. Representatives from the NSAA and U.S. Cellular will present the Crusaders with their fourth consecutive Class A Girls’ Division honor.
Last year Omaha Marian won five NSAA Championships. During the fall season, Marian won the NSAA Class A championship in girls’ golf and volleyball and continued to gather points in 2011 by taking second in swimming and diving and finishing in a tie for fifth place at the NSAA Girls’ State Basketball Championships. Marian started the spring season by finishing first in Class A2 journalism and followed that with two more championships in tennis and soccer. The Marian music department also contributed points through participation in the NSAA Spring District Music Contest.
U.S. Cellular and the NSAA honor the top high school activities programs in the state each year as sponsors of the U.S. Cellular Cup. The award winners are determined by a point system based on performance in NSAA championship events within four classes of the Girls, Boys and All-School Divisions. Music, which does not have a state level event, earns points based on district music contest participation by each school’s instrumental and vocal music departments.
U.S. Cellular Cup standings are released after the conclusion of the fall, winter, and spring activity seasons. The permanent trophies are presented to the winning schools during a special ceremony the following year.
