LINCOLN, NE – The Lincoln Saltdogs added a pair of arms at the roster deadline on Thursday, acquiring left-handed pitcher Cody Walden from Tucson of the Golden League and signing rookie right-handed pitcher Sean Potter.
Walden pitched well for his hometown Toros in the Golden League this season, going 4-1 in 17 games and posting a 3.44 ERA in a hitter-friendly league. He first pitched collegiately at Cochise Community College in Arizona, before spending his final two amateur seasons at Division II Armstrong Atlantic State in Savannah, GA. In 2009, his senior year, Cody went 11-2 with two complete games and a 3.70 ERA. He’s scheduled to make his Lincoln debut Saturday in St. Paul. The trade with Tucson completes the deal that sent infielder Dustin Yount to the Toros before the 2009 season.
Potter spent his first two years of college ball at the community college level, before transferring to Arkansas-Little Rock for his junior and senior seasons. Sean appeared in 18 games during his senior campaign this past spring, all in relief, going 1-1 in 32.2 innings pitched and recording a save. Potter played amateur baseball after college earlier this summer, and made two appearances earlier this month at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita. In 2009, he played summer ball for the Beatrice Bruins.
The acquisitions bring Lincoln’s roster to 22 players. American Association teams are allowed to carry 23 players over the final ten days of the season.
