Marcelo Fontana has been named the coach of the Omaha Vipers, the city's new Major Indoor Soccer League team.
Fontana, whose hiring was announced Thursday, has been a standout player for the league's Milwaukee Wave. According to the Wave's website, the 37-year-old Fontana is a native of Misiones, Argentina.
The MISL expansion team will play at the 9,300-seat Civic Auditorium beginning in November.
Open tryouts for the team will be held Sept. 25 and 26. Registration costs $50. For more details, call 402-932-3335.
The addition of Omaha gives the MISL seven teams. In addition to Milwaukee, the others are in Baltimore; Independence, Mo.;
Philadelphia; Rockford, Ill.; and Monterrey, Mexico.
