Defending GPAC Men's Golf Champion Nebraska Wesleyan picked up where they left off in the spring and shot a round of 291 today and sit in first place after the first 18 of 72 holes in the GPAC Regular Season Qualifiers for 2010-11. Dordt College served as host at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa.
With four of their top golfers back the Prairie Wolves were led by today's medalist Patrick Hanzel who shot a 68 on the course completed in 2009. He shot a front nine of 35 and a back nine of 33 to go three under for NWU.
Northwestern is in second place with a 298, while Dakota Wesleyan in third with 300.
Travis Johnson from Dakota Wesleyan also shot under par with a round of 70 (35,35). Ryan Kamp from Dordt and Ryan Kiewet from Northwestern both shot even par of 71 on the day.
It was a near perfect day in Sioux Center with light winds and a high of 79 degrees. The second GPAC Men's Regular Season Qualifier will be played on October 7 in Hastings, Nebraska, at the Lochland Country Club.
