When North Carolina and Creighton meet Sunday, it will reunite former high school teammates Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott as each tries to lead his team to the NCAA tournament's round of 16 in the Midwest Regional.
The two led Ames High School in Iowa to consecutive unbeaten
seasons. Barnes was regarded as the nation's No. 1 recruit before
signing with the Tar Heels, while McDermott was an unheralded
player who originally signed with Northern Iowa before being
released to play for his father at Creighton.
McDermott is averaging 23 points and eight rebounds for the eighth-seeded Bluejays (29-5), while Barnes is leading the top-seeded Tar Heels (30-5) at 17 points.
It's still unclear whether UNC junior John Henson will be able to play due to a sprained left wrist.
