Following Saturday evening’s football game between Doane College and Dakota State University (S.D.), Doane College will dedicate the Cody Fanning Memorial Plaza. Fanning, a former Tiger football player, passed away this past April after he fell out of the back of a moving pick-up.
The plaza will be located south of the football field, inside the stadium fencing. The memorial will be concrete and black granite, inspired by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. and the Doane Wall of Honor located in the Perry Campus Center in the middle of the Doane campus.
The college has worked closely with the Fanning family to create the plaza that will honor Cody and other past letter winners. Families of past letter winners can contact the college about having their loved ones honored in the plaza.
On Saturday evening, Doane President Jacque Carter and football coach Matt Franzen will speak at the dedication. Following the game, all fans are invited to come down on the field and form the spirit line, a pre-game tradition welcoming the Tiger football players to the field. The football team will approach the plaza through the spirit line after their post-game talk with Coach Franzen at midfield.
