LINCOLN - The Lincoln Saltdogs unveiled their 2012 baseball schedule, which opens May 17 at Wichita and features 13 inter-league contests against Can-Am League clubs. The home opener at Haymarket Park is slated for May 23 against Sioux City.
The first full home stand runs from May 25-30 and will pit the Saltdogs against two new opponents: New Jersey Jackals (Can-Am) and the Laredo Lemurs.
Lincoln will play a full 100 game schedule in 2012, with the final date September 3. The final home game for the Saltdogs will be August 23 against Sioux Falls. The Saltdogs will finish the campaign with 10 road games in 11 days against Can-Am League competition (the exact opponents for that final road trip are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks).
The American Association in 2012 will be comprised of 13 teams: five in the Central division (Lincoln, Wichita Wingnuts, Kansas City T-Bones, Sioux City Explorers, Gary SouthShore RailCats); four in the North (Winnipeg Goldeyes, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Sioux Falls Pheasants, St. Paul Saints) and four in the South (Grand Prairie AirHogs, Laredo Lemurs, Amarillo Sox, El Paso Diablos).
The Can-Am League will adopt the AA’s 100-game schedule, with play starting May 17 and ending September 3. Five Can-Am teams will make one 10-game road trip to AA cities, and five AA teams will play 10 games each at Can-Am ballparks, for a total of 100 interleague games.
Shreveport will not operate in 2012, but its players will be assigned to the Laredo roster. The Fort Worth Cats will not play in 2012 but are expected to return in 2013.
