They come from as far away as Illinois and Missouri. Nebraska's Winterfest runs exactly like an Olympic event. In fact ten-year old Anna Roof and nine-year old Erin Dickinson are well on their way and representing Nebraska well.
Anna won the gold medal in the preliminary jumps competition. She got hooked on the sport when she was just four years old, after seeing Disney On Ice. "I liked Seeing all ll of the spins and jumps and moves," said Roof.
For Erin it was television. "I don't know, I just saw it on TV and I thought it would be neat and I thought it would be fun gliding across the ice."
Both girls placed well at the Winterfest Invitational. They are just a few steps away from Junior Nationals and then the Nationals and the Olympics. The goal is to ultimately get a gold there. "it's going to be a lot of work, but if I keep working hard I can probably make it,"said Dickinson "I would like to get a Gold Medal in the Olympics," added Roof.
Both girls practice at least five days a week. They do it for the love of the sport now, but they are heading toward skating for the love of their country.
