Northwestern College received 11 first place votes and totaled 121 points and is the preseason coaches’ selection to win the 2010-2011 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Basketball Championship.
The Red Raiders, coached by Earl Woudstra, posted a 31-5 record last year and won the NAIA National Title. They went through league play at 15-3. Morningside, the 2009 National Champion, is tabbed second with 108 points. The Mustangs went 21-12 last winter. Concordia was tabbed third with 87 points in the poll.
Last year’s conference champion, Hastings, after compiling a 31-4 record last year, is picked fifth with 83 points and the other first place vote. Morningside, Northwestern, Concordia, Hastings, and Briar Cliff all advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last season in Sioux City, Iowa.
