The Lower Platte South NRD’s Oak Creek Recreational Trail will be closed November 13th through the 21st during firearm deer hunting season. The trail, which extends for twelve miles from Valparaiso to Brainard, wanders through some prime habitat for deer and those areas attract many hunters each year.
The firearm deer season is the only time the trail is routinely closed during the year. “That’s an agreement we made with area residents when the trail opened in 1996,” said Lower Platte South NRD Resources Coordinator Dan Schulz. “We thought it was a good idea then and it still is. The last thing we want is to have hikers and bikers on the trail under unsafe conditions.” Warning signs will be posted at every trail access and will be taken down soon after the season ends.
