Nebraska Wesleyan sophomore catcher Kayla Randel has been honored as this week’s Great Plains Athletic Conference/Hauff Mid-America Sports Softball Player-of-the-Week for the week of April 2-8.
Randel (Beatrice, Neb.) went 11-23 at the plate for a .478 batting average in eight games last week, leading the Prairie Wolves to a 5-3 record. She recorded a double, two triples a stolen base, four RBI and had a .696 slugging percentage. Behind the plate, Randel threw out three of seven runners attempting to steal a base.
Randel put up big offensive numbers at the Grinnell College Tournament as NWU went 3-1 and finished as the tournament runner-up. She was 8-13 at the plate, including a 4-4 game in the win over Westminster. Against Westminster she was 4-4 with a double, triple and RBI.
The Beatrice H.S. graduate is third on the team in hitting this season with a .305 batting average. She is second on the team with nine RBI.
NWU has two doubleheaders this weekend playing at Dakota Wesleyan University on Friday then returning home to face Mount Marty on Saturday.
