Lincoln, Neb. – The first edition of the 2012 NAIA National Football Players of the Week were announced Monday (Sept. 3) by the national office. Nebraska Wesleyan’s Jordan Delbaugh was named the NAIA National Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2. The winners were chosen out of a pool of player of the week performers among the nine conferences and independents.

Delbaugh, a 5-4, 180lb senior running back from Englewood, Colo., had two blocked kicks in Nebraska Wesleyan’s 25-20 victory against Saint Mary (Kan.) on Sept. 1 at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.

His first block came on a Spires field goal attempt late in the first half to keep the Prairie Wolves within a touchdown (14-7) at the half. Delbaugh’s second came in the fourth quarter on a Saint Mary PAT. In addition to blocking the attempt, Delbaugh scooped up and returned the ball for a defensive PAT to put the Prairie Wolves up by five points.

Delbaugh now owns eight career blocked kicks.

Howard McDonald from Eastern Oregon was the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week while another GPAC player, Davis Bloemendaal from Northwestern College was the NAIA Offensive Player of the week.

Nebraska Wesleyan (1-0) opens GPAC play this Saturday (Sept. 8) when they travel to Fremont, Neb., to face Midland University. It will be the first game of the 2012 season for the Warriors and their new head football coach. Kickoff is set for Noon.
