Omaha, Neb.– In a messy game, the Omaha Lancers earned a 4-2 victory over the Lincoln Stars in the Mutual of Omaha Battles on Ice at TD Ameritrade Park. The contest was the first ever outdoor game in the history of the United States Hockey League. The victory was the team’s 10th in the last 11 games as the Lancers moved to 6-1 on the year against the Stars. The game was delayed several times for ice maintenance. The sunlight and near 50 degree temperatures made it difficult to play at times.

Omaha wasted little time settling into the outdoor environment as the Lancers grabbed the game’s first goal just over a minute into the contest when Trent Samuels-Thomas slipped a pass behind the Lincoln defense to Hough for his sixth goal of the year. Omaha doubled its lead a little less than seven minutes later when, in the midst of the first power play of the game. Lincoln wasted little time trimming the lead back to a single tally as Phillip Marinaccio won a battle for a loose puck atop the Lancers goal crease just nine seconds later before jabbing in his 12th goal of the year. Mike McKee picked up the only assist on the five-on-five tally scored 8:25 into the opening frame. Omaha responded quickly though and regained its two-goal lead just 1:23 later when Dominic Racobaldo found Baillargeon at the side of the net for his 15th goal of the season.

Lincoln trimmed Omaha’s lead back down to two 6:47 into the second period when Will Suter snapped a 16-game scoring skid with his ninth goal of the season. Jake Wood earned the only assist on the goal which proved to be the final salvo fired on the afternoon. Despite 20 third period shots, the Stars couldn’t solve Lyon again as the veteran netminder improved to 20-12 on the year in moving to a perfect 5-0 against Lincoln this season. Meanwhile, Bitzer suffered the loss for Lincoln while Teichroeb took a no-decision after 16 saves on 17 shots.
