The Tri-City Storm could not score a goal for the second straight game and struggled Tuesday night keeping the Lincoln Stars from scoring goals, as the Storm lost to the Stars 8-0 on home ice. Lincoln extended their winning streak to five games, which is the second longest active streak in the USHL.
The Stars (7-5-0, 14 pts) got two goals in the first period from Garrett Peterson and Josh Berge, as Lincoln outshot Tri-City 17-10 in the period.
Tri-City (4-4-4, 12 pts) gave up another goal 23-seconds into the second period to John McCarron, as Storm goalie Christopher Holden was pulled in favor of backup Scott Diebold.
Diebold would not find much more success stopping the Stars, who scored five more goals on the 15 shots on Diebold in the second period. Jared Hanson scored twice, as Brent Tate, Ryan Dzingel, and Andrew Schmit each tallied a goal in the second period.
Holden would shutout Lincoln in the third period after coming back into the game facing five shots in the final period.
Stars goalie Kevin Murdock, who made 28 saves, posted his second shutout of the season and the second straight shutout against the Storm.
The next game for the Storm will be on the road on Friday night at Waterloo and Saturday night in Sioux Falls. Tri-City will begin a seven-game home stand following the road trip this weekend.
