Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney junior outfielder Brian Wuest has been named to the 2012 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-American Team.
The Lopers right fielder was selected to the ABCA third-team. He joins second baseman Cody Lusero (2007) and first baseman Andrew Haake (2011) as the only UNK baseball players to earn All-American honors at the Division II level.
Besides Wuest, Colorado Mesa outfielder Jeff Popick (first-team) and Colorado State-Pueblo second baseman Chase Lacomb (3r-dteam) were the RMAC players to make the squad. Senior first baseman Nate Minnich of Shepherd (W.V.) was tabbed as the Player of the Year.
This spring, Wuest (Prosper, Texas) batted .394 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI’s. He also led the team in doubles (17), triples (four), walks received (30), slugging (.725) and on base (.483) percentages. In the field, he recorded 88 put outs and three assists.
