The Nebraska-Kearney football team is ranked 17th in Lindy Magazine’s Preseason Division II Top 25 poll.
Note the official poll for Division II is run weekly by the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association). They will not release a preseason poll until mid-August.
UNK is one of five MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) teams in Lindy’s Top 25. By way of comparison, Colorado State-Pueblo (8th) is the only RMAC school to crack the Top 25.
Among MIAA schools, defending national champion Pittsburg State is No. 1 and is followed by rival NW Missouri State (3rd), Washburn (15th), the Lopers and Missouri Western State (23rd).
UNK opens the 2012 season on Thursday, August 30th, at Washburn. Two weeks later, the Lopers visit Missouri Western and then host NW Missouri on September 22nd.
Individually, senior free safety Sam Kuck (Central City) was named to Lindy’s preseason All-American team. One of 12 players from the MIAA on the squad, Kuck made the second-team.
A two-time All-RMAC pick, Kuck has racked up 164 tackles and picked off six passes in his Loper career to date. As a sophomore in 2010, he was named second-team All-Central Region.
