Emergency Crews Respond to Accident at Lincoln Race Course - Laura Berry Reports
A day at the races turned into a trip to the hospital for three jockey's at Lincoln Race Course.
Two jockeys remain hospitalized after an accident involving six horses during a race at a Lincoln track.
Armando Martinez, Jordan Olesiak and Chris Fackler were taken to a Lincoln hospital after Saturday afternoon's accident at the Lincoln Race Course.
Olesiak's agent, Dan Coughlin, said Martinez was in intensive care with broken bones in his face, while Olesiak suffered pulled ligaments in his hip and Fackler was being treated for a concussion.
A hospital spokeswoman says Martinez was in serious condition Sunday and Olesiak was in fair. Fackler has been released.
The accident happened as Martinez's horse, Valentine Twist, clipped the heels of another horse, unseating Martinez and causing a chain reaction that toppled five other horses.
No horses were seriously injured.
Emergency vehicles responded to a call from the track around four o'clock Saturday afternoon and three jockeys were transported to the hospital.
Owner Blaine Adams' horse, Perfetta Rosa, was not involved in the accident but he says he saw it all happen.
Adams says that there is a risk involved in any sport whether it be football or horse racing.
He adds that an accident of this sort is very rare. He says that in his more than 30 years spent at Lincoln Race Course he's never seen anything like it and it won't keep him from putting his horse on the track for Sunday's races.
