A dog goes on a crazy ride when the car he's in gets stolen.
A Lincoln woman left her SUV unlocked at 16th and N around 3:30 Tuesday with her beagle mix, Charlie, inside.
According to police, the vehicle was then stolen, but a short time later the woman received a call saying another woman named Candace had dropped the dog off with a friend.
Police contacted Candace Foster at her home and found her and Traylon Lockett sitting in the stolen SUV.
They have both been arrested for theft.
Charlie is safely back at home.
"I think the fact that the dog was in the car made the recovery of the vehicle that much quicker. People really have compassion towards all things vulnerable, whether it's children, animals or the elderly. I think that played into this. They wanted to reunite the dog with it's owner," Officer Katie Flood said.
Police say Charlie's owner will not face any charges for leaving her dog unattended in a hot car.
